Papers : about the building and furnishing of Prestwould, 1775-1797.

The papers contain transcripts of a 1794 contract between Peyton Skipwith and Jacob Shelor for the building of the house; a letter, 1795 August 27, from Jean Skipwith to James Maury enclosing an invoice for sundries to be used in the finishing; directions and measurements, 1794, for the house; and bills for labor and materials. The collection also contains a contract, 1785, between Skipwith and Shelor for the building of chimneys; and a contract between Skipwith and James Hooper in 1775 for the erection of grain mills; as well as an inventory, 1791, for furniture at Elm Hill.
